There’s nothing new about organic wines.
In fact, non-organic wines are the newer innovation, with the 20th Century introduction of pesticides and chemicals sprayed on the vines and added to the soil to help create better, healthier grapes. In earlier centuries, everything was organic!
However, a return to older values and traditional farming principles, letting the fruit grow naturally with no artificial encouragement, is beginning to be embraced by many wine producers.
Pesticides are replaced by ducks, who keep the snail population down. Weeds between the vines are ploughed by a horse-drawn plough, and chemicals have not been added to the soil for years.
The result? Just as organic fruit and veg tastes better, we think organic wines taste better too. But don’t take our word for it, try it for yourselves.
We’re proud to represent the Organic and Biodynamic Elgin Ridge wine estate, with their Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir.
